I would give the Kindle version zero stars if possible. It’s $3.19 totally wasted. Other books I ordered for my Kindle had a table of contents, so when I ordered this Bible, I was shocked to find that it did would not have one. Unfortunately, the other reviewers finding that same problem had not yet posted when I placed my order, so I join them in warning others to avoid this version for Kindle. Its lack of a table of contents is a major flaw and makes it basically useless for the Kindle. I removed the one I purchased, and I’m just cheap enough to really resent having to throw money in the trash, even if it is only $3.19.
One reason I looked forward to receiving my Kindle is that I thought it would be an easy way to read the Bible at a print-size comfortable for no-longer-young eyes without trying to support a large and heavy Bible in no-longer-young hands. I also expected Kindle to make searching easy, and it should in a Bible properly formatted for the Kindle. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to yet be such a Bible. While I wait for what I really want, I’ll use the importantia Bible, which isn’t perfect, but is the best I’ve found, and at only 80 cents, it’s practically free.
I do love my Kindle, but I wish I could find a good Bible for it. I prefer the King James Version (I just like to think for myself.), so I haven’t looked at other versions for the Kindle.
A little disappointing on the Kindle as there is no preamble to each of the chapters which some like to set the context of a chapter.
A bigger challenge is that this would be a much more usable text for looking up scriptures on the Kindle if it had an index or table of contents. As it is – one must use the Search function which is often hit or miss.
Of note, the Holy Bible (King James Version), Old & New testament by importantia.com has a table of contents which is only marginally better on the Kindle. The Kindle appears to only have space to allow linking to the first 13 chapters. Additionally, the chapter numbers do not appear as you read. It is also missing the preamble to the chapters.
Please post here and let us all know if anyone finds a better Bible for the Kindle!
This was the first book I ordered for my Kindle and was surprised to find it had no Table of Contents or a way to search for a Chapter. Bibles aren’t usually read from start to finish. I wanted a Bible I could take to church and follow along as the pastor read. With this one, that would be impossible.
